HAPPY ELF is a dutch independent recording artist. He makes his own kind of synthpop using analog synthesizers and drum computers. His music sounds like music from the 80ties of last century and brings back happy memories.

HAPPY ELF does not use a computer but plays all his instruments himself. He started making music 30 years ago using the same synthesizers and drum computers, recording almost a track a week. HAPPY ELF also plays guitars and drums and performs with several bands in The Netherlands. Since 1999 he released many cd’s, most of them are freely available at www.wmrecordings.com. BEACH STREET, an album with 6 easy, groovy tunes is his latest one.

"Beach Street" is a laidback, groovy electropop EP from one of the most curious artists of the underground electropop scene. "Beach Street" is a mixture of easy listening pop made purely with analogue machines. Jeroen's way of creating is smart, happy, free from schemes, .... and easy. Juno Six Sex? Purely magic.

Subject: Happy Elf's - Beach Street
This is production a VERY 80's retro sounding effort. The real question for us here is weather it is good though and as cool as I think it can be to hear all of the old 80's aesthetics get used somewhat intelligently in music once more I have to say after some listening to Beach Street I can only see the sense in giving it a three star review. Why do I say this? For one most of the vocals sound sort of lame and weak to me. The idea of vocoding vocal audio in itself is not something that without some thought is guaranteed to add hipness to any and every recorded production. Speaking about sounds, some of the song writing that was done on this I think could have been better. On the positive side would not have to pay anyone to get this if I wanted it. Imo the best song on Beach street is The End because its on this track Happy Elf does a decent job of making a tuneful sound even though its another case of where I think the singing could have been done better that it had turned out.
